AIRLIFE provides unique critical
care transport services across an extensive and diverse service area. This
includes everything from scene responses on remote stretches of highway to
transport of patients from rural hospitals to major receiving centers and
Denver area transfers of patients going to specialty centers for emergent
interventions. The rapid response and exceptional clinical care provided by
AIRLIFE during transport to higher levels of care can significantly improve
outcomes for our patients.
AIRLIFE serves a ten-state region including Colorado, Wyoming,
Montana, Nebraska, Kansas, New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, Texas and South Dakota.
AirLife serves these areas through the use of rotor and fixed wing aircraft, as
well as ground ambulances and makes safety and efficiency our guiding
principles on every transport. Air ambulance licensure is maintained in
both Colorado and Wyoming, which are home to our operational and crew bases.
Here is
some of what you can expect from being an AirLife Chief Flight Nurse:
- The
Chief Flight Nurse (CFN) serves as a leader, clinical resource person, role
model, coach and facilitator for staff and department operations for day to day
operations. The CFN provides
clinical management through organizing, coordinating, and monitoring the care
provided across AirLife.
- Will typically work in
the office M-F in addition to routinely functioning in the role of a transport
nurse and is routinely scheduled as such. Will not be scheduled for
transport shifts on weekends or holidays. Functions regularly as
administrator on call.
- Demonstrates advanced
knowledge and skills in critical care transport of patients, and with the
Clinical Director assures proper adherence and tracking of requirements. The
CFN delegates duties consistent with the scope of practice and function within
the philosophy and overall plan of care at AirLife
- Has fundamental
knowledge of licensure and accreditation requirements. Helps assure
AirLife’s compliance to regulatory agencies to include CAMTS, JCAHO, and
licensure standards in all states AirLife has regular operations.
Responsible for the oversight of any necessary state waivers related to our
paramedic practice. Assures proper data collection and reporting related
to these regulatory standards.
- Assures compliance
with the DEA and HCA requirements related to controlled substance handling on a
day to day basis. Assures compliance with pharmacy audits, team
documentation, and appropriate handling of controlled substances. Assures
immediate reporting of any discrepancies or concerns to the Clinical Director.
- Assures adherence to
standards for carrying blood products and is responsible for managing the daily
operations related to this.
- In coordination with
the AirLife Medical Directors and Clinical Director assures quality patient
care. Supervises the provision of care in accordance with the Medical
Directors. Works with the educators in the identification and provision
of educational activities for the staff.
- Directly participates
in interviewing, hiring, promotion and corrective action for any direct
reports. Actively participates with other leadership in rounding with all
team members and annual evaluations. Involved with the development and
oversight of direct reports. Responsible for managing disciplinary
matters in a manner that promotes Just Culture, as well as open and honest
reporting.
- Leads team in clinical
matters and assists in organizational matters. Leads and oversees delivery of
patient care. Leads team in such a way as to promote a Just Culture, a sense of
belonging, team effectiveness, accountability for clinical and personal
conduct, low employee turnover, high morale, regularly recognizes staff
clinical accomplishments, and encourages growth and development. Is vested in
the mission of the organization and AirLife Denver’s role as a leading health
care provider.
- As part of the
hospitals and program’s management team, communicates information to and from
staff. Maintains a positive communication style, keeps employees informed,
listens to staff, investigates and resolves issues. Collaborates with
management, physicians, patients, and co-workers to promote effective teamwork
and problem-solving. Keeps Clinical Director and Director of Business
Operations informed of potential issues that may require his or her attention.
Regularly reports on the team’s activities and actions so leadership stays
informed of work unit status. Initiates communication with others to be
pro-active in problem resolution. Is assertive and responsible in developing
and maintaining high levels of team performance.
