As a Registered Nurse in the Trauma Performance Improvement, you are responsible for the coordination of services required for multi-disciplinary team approach to care for trauma patients.  Functions as an expert educator, consultant, liaison, leader, and evaluator. Strives to improve and maintain quality of patient care and clinical knowledge and performance of members of the trauma team. Works closely with medical staff, administration and nursing units to fulfill these responsibilities. Ensures that all guidelines and protocols are consistent with the care being provided. Identifies opportunities for improvement and manages the performance improvement program.  Responsible for meeting State of Florida Trauma Center Standards as well as Joint Commission standards, complying with all mandatory reporting required by the trauma program, complying with corporate and hospital policy and procedures, managing patient information, promoting teamwork and positive customer service.


  • Coordinates and completes the trauma PI plan in a concurrent fashion including PI meetings and other PI projects as needed

  • Ensures trauma patients receive a continuum of optimal care within the context of the American College of Surgeons Optimal Guidelines, the Florida State Approved Trauma Center Standards and the HCA/USF Trauma Registry Guidelines.

  • Initiates resolution of PI issues in coordination with the trauma program director, trauma medical director and those specifically involved in the issue. Identifies PI issues for every trauma patient, determining which need immediate management through Trauma M&M Committee

  • Attends rounds with physicians, and participates in multi-disciplinary rounds to ensure patients receive all services needed. Schedules, coordinates, and follows-up on consults and procedures

  • In conjunction with the Trauma Director, acts as a liaison for the hospital and the trauma program with community, local, regional, and state agencies involved in the care of the trauma patient

  • Identifies trauma related learning needs of staff and provides appropriate education

Qualifications

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing: Associate's Degree in Nursing or higher is required
  • Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state which you practice and/or hold an active Compact/Multi-State RN license
  • A current American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider is required
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Pediatric Life Support (PALS) is required
  • TNCC required within 6 months of hire/transfer date
  • ATCN required within 2 years of hire/transfer date
  • Previous Trauma experience as a Registered Nurse required
  • Trauma Performance Improvement experience preferred
