Unit Description

The Emergency Department consists of a 24-bed, multi-specialty unit, 4-bed Quick Care area and 8 overflow beds for minor injuries and illnesses. We are located in the technological neighborhood of Austin and see 44,000 patients annually. Our admission rate is 18% of all the ED visits: pulmonary and cardiac illnesses being the most frequent diagnoses.

Bedside registration is a feature that proves to increase efficiencies and patient satisfaction in the ED. With bedside registration, patients are no longer brought to a registration area from triage, but rather brought directly to an examination room.

Our staff consists of physicians, RN's, and technicians. Approximately half of our techs are paramedics. All of our nursing and technical staff are currently certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and many RN's are currently certified in pediatric care (PALS or ENPC). Many of our nurses have attained their CEN certification and CCRN certifications.
