POSITION OVERVIEW

The Post-Surgical Care Unit is a 40 bed inpatient area that provides care along a continuum for pre and post surgical adults and geriatric patients. Patients above the age of 14 may be admitted and are evaluated on a case-by-case basis to ensure the most appropriate care can be delivered. Decentralized cardiac monitoring is available for all 40 beds. Patient population includes orthopedic diagnosis (medical & surgical), neuro-medical or surgical, surgical spine and trauma. Surgical procedures may be related to wound care/plastic surgery, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, gynecologic, renal, thoracic, vascular, otolaryngeal, total joint replacements, fractures, and musculoskeletal injuries of upper/lower extremities.

Joint Replacement Center is located within the 40 bed capacity of PSCU. Patients having hip and knee replacement surgery are placed in this area of the unit. This is a specialty unit with core staff and established guidelines for patient placement.

The Registered Nurse is a professional who assumes the responsibility and accountability for the provision of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care provided that incorporates evidence based practice. A key aspect of the work of Nursing is to continually improve the quality of nursing care by collecting and analyzing data.

EDUCATION

Candidates should possess one or more of the following:

Knowledge of patient care standards and practices normally acquired through completion of a nursing program. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.

Possesses an active Wisconsin RN nursing license.

Current CPR certification or obtained within 90 days of hire.
